Conference Cartoons

Was there anything special about the last conference you attended? Was it fun? Was it memorable? Virtual Meetings and online Zoom Conferences can often make it even harder for everyone to engage.

Drawing on the spot at your next live event Luke Warm can create pertinent, funny Conference Cartoons during the workshops, lectures and plenary sessions, and then immediately upload them to the venue’s display system. So by the first coffee break there can be a slideshow of 2-3 cartoons on rotation, 6-7 by lunchtime, and 12-15 by the end of the day. As well as loosening up and entertaining delegates they promote further discussion and can also be Tweeted out immediately for instant and engaging promotion of your event. After the day they can be used to illustrate proceedings and reports about the event at no further charge.

For Virtual Conferences, Zoom and Teams meetings Luke Warm can follow the day online and draw Conference Cartoons and Visual Minutes in real time in his studio uploading them to you throughout the day. He can also draw caricatures of the participants, again in real time.

Other successful ideas include Cartoon Strip Workshops where he can guide your colleagues in producing there own cartoon strips on a subject of your choice - often an issue that needs to be addressed in the organisation.  This fun process can help tease out ideas and engage even the most reticent.

It's also not unusual for presentations at conferences to contain cartoons which have been copied from the internet and reused without permission - leaving both the speaker and their organisation legally liable for copyright infringement.  Google's Reverse Image Search now makes this considerably easier to trace.  By commissioning your own bespoke Conference Cartoons it's possible to then have a whole set of completely original and appropriate cartoons to use worry free.

Luke Warm has provided weekly cartoons and illustrations for The Financial Times, The Irish Times, The Press Association and many other national newspapers and is well used to simplifying complex business ideas at meetings and turning them into humorous cartoons.

Just get in touch and he'll be happy to give you some further information.

Making it memorable..

Conference Cartoons - the humorous visual anchor for your big day!

Workshops, seminars, trade shows and exhibitions can all be enlivened by entertaining, thought provoking Conference Cartoons - and they're bound to create interest in your Twitter feed.

Clear humorous cartoons can help capture the salient points of the day in an entertaining and memorable way and become a thought provoking centrepiece.

If Luke Warm is already drawing at your event then he can also offer very advantageous rates for entertaining later on with On the Spot Caricatures at your evening drinks reception, dinner or awards ceremony.

Most of the events he draws at are in the UK, but he's happy to travel further if required.

The Valuing Nature Programme and University of Exeter staged extensive public dialogue events in Exeter, Birmingham, Glasgow and London from 2014-5.  Luke Warm was involved throughout and this video published in June 2015 gives a good idea of his conference cartoons in action. As well as being projected on screens and stuck up on walls at the event, the drawings were used to illustrate the final 112 page report.

Working on a large whiteboard or paper attached to a wall Luke Warm can also offer more literal Visual Minutes - also known as Illustrated Minutes, on the spot visualisation, graphics recording, graphics listening, reflective graphics, graphic facilitation etc. These are essentially graphic flow charts of the ideas presented in the day - and provide a visual reminder of the main points.

What details do you need for a quote?

To give you a quote for Conference Cartooning he needs to know

  • the date(s) and location of the event

  • a brief outline of the programme, and have

  • an understanding of your particular requirements

He will then give you some options and prices.

Typical Timings?

The shortest drawing time that is really feasible is a half day and in which you could expect 6-7 cartoons. In a full day 12-15 cartoons would be usual though it does depend on the format of the day, content of the discussions etc.

Before the Event?

Luke Warm is always happy to talk through your day in advance to make sure he fits in as closely as possible with your plans.

He will also work closely with your venue's IT team to ensure his work can be uploaded smoothly to their display system.

To draw his Conference Cartoons Luke Warm will need the use of two adjacent chairs - one for him and one for his materials - and the best light that's available. It's helpful if he's situated near an exit to allow the easy access for uploading and displaying his work.

At the Event?

Relax - Luke Warm is happy to work independently and you can expect cartoons to appear in the meeting areas and be periodically uploaded throughout the day. He can email them directly to you and upload them to Dropbox etc

You can expect to see 2-3 cartoons by first coffee break, 5-6 by lunch and 12-15 by the end of the first day.

The cartoons can be both displayed on walls in your meeting areas and on the venue's display screens.

Social Media?

All cartoons are scanned and uploaded as JPEGs ready to be added to your Tweets or Facebook page.  There is no additional charge for this use.
Conference Cartoons make really eye catching Tweets during an event.

After the Event?

After the event all the Conference Cartoons can be used in Proceedings, Reports and Social Media posts about the event at no further charge.

It's also possible for other wider uses of the cartoons to be agreed - please just ask.

What else can you offer for Events?

If Luke Warm is already drawing Conference Cartoons at your event then he can also offer advantageous rates for entertaining with On the Spot Caricaturing. It takes about 5-6 minutes for a felt tip caricature of one person. He can draw caricatures during daytime refreshment breaks but evening functions are more usual - award presentations, gala dinners and balls.

Can you redraw the cartoons?

After the Event Luke Warm can tidy up the cartoons (substitute handwriting with a typed font, remove stray lines etc.) or even provide complete redraws of selected cartoons to a more finished standard - often required for use in Powerpoint presentations, illustrations for books or papers or presents for guest speakers.

How do I get the best results?!

Well organised clients get the best work - by keeping emails short and clear, maintaining the entire email thread and providing a good clear brief.

Luke Warm is based in North Devon so most of his on the spot work is in the West Country - Devon (Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, Paignton, Barnstaple, Tiverton, Newton Abbot, Tavistock), Cornwall (Bodmin, Truro, Camborne, Redruth, St. Austell, Falmouth, Penzance, Newquay), Somerset (Taunton, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Wells, Glastonbury), Wiltshire (Trowbridge, Salisbury, Swindon, Chippenham, Devizes, Marlborough, Warminster), and Dorset (Dorchester, Poole, Weymouth, Sherborne, Wimborne Minster, Shaftesbury).  However from time to time he's tempted out of the sunny south west - often for conferences and events in South Wales, Birmingham or London.
